Scars are something that many people have and can, in time, learn to accept. However, this is usually the case for smaller scars that are easy enough to cover over and hide. Larger scars, deeper scars or scars that are found on more visible parts of your body, these are the types of scars that more people are going to want to find a way to remove. Thankfully, there are plenty of scar removal options available nowadays.
Scar Removal Treatments
There are scar creams out there which are designed to help to reduce the visibility of scars, however, they may not work for everyone. Some scars such as self-harm scars can be even more distressing to deal with, as society sees them as a sign of weakness and considers them socially unacceptable. There are plenty of ways to camouflage, hide or remove self-harm scars in 2021.
If you are concerned about how your scar looks, or whether or not you are going to be able to hide it; then you may want to consider more extensive treatments or procedures to remove them.
There are a number of different options for you to consider, so to help you to come to an informed decision, here is some more information on the best scar removal techniques and treatments that people chose during 2021.
Laser Scar Removal
It seems that laser removal is becoming more and more commonplace as a treatment for a range of issues. This includes hair removal and also tattoo removal. Similarly, laser removal can also be used to treat scars on your skin too. The laser will be directed onto the skin where the scar is and over the course of your treatment (which will often be several sessions), this will remove any of the damaged skin cells and in turn reduce the appearance of the scar.
There is minimal recovery time for laser removal, however, you will need to take care of your skin after the treatment as it can leave it feeling irritated and sore.
Dermabrasion
The idea of dermabrasion is that it will remove the topmost layers of your skin, using a surgical scraping process. It takes away some of the older, damaged, and scarred skin and leaves fresher, smoother skin underneath. Results of dermabrasion can be quite dramatic and it is known to be a longer-lasting treatment than some other more surgical options.
Dermabrasion is best for scars that relate to acne or pox marks, it is known to be less effective on skin that has been scarred due to burns.
Micro-Needling
Also known as derma rolling, micro-needling, as the name suggests, uses small needles to prick the skin. The skin, when it is pricked, will be encouraged to generate new collagen and this will help the skin to repair itself. The skin that grows will be firmer and the scars that you may have in that area will appear to be reduced.
Skin Grafts
If the other forms of removal don’t appear to be working or the scar is deeper and harder to reduce, then surgery may be the only option. Skin graft surgery means that the scarred area is removed and then your healthy skin, which is taken from another part of the body, is put in its place. This particular technique does require a longer recovery time.

Find Which Scar Removal Treatment Works for You
Scars can have a huge impact on your life, your career, and your relationships. No matter the type of scar removal treatment you try out, the truth is that you don’t have to live with your scars. There are plenty of things that you can do to make sure that you have skin that is firm and that looks its best every single day.
Thinking of my own experience when I underwent reconstructive surgery which helped improve the look of my scars, it has been a tough decision but so worth it. It took a heavy burden away from me and I can go on with my life much easier.
But having scars can be an opportunity to be grateful. Without this experience, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I would not have the power, the resilience, the determination, the resourcefulness, and the courage. There is a big part of me that is so accepting and appreciating of what I have now, the life I live, I cherish it. I am grateful every day. I am also much more open-minded and understand that everyone has their story.
My growth might not have been as steep as it was due to what happened to me. And I need to be proud of them, because my scars didn’t break me, they made me.
